Taking Our Families to Look at Downtown Christmas Lights

Guest post written by my buddy Royce Heath

This year, my brother and I decided to take our families out together to see Christmas lights. All of the kids were really excited to get to go with their cousins. As my husband and I prepared to leave the house, it was hard to get our son and daughter to sit still long enough to put on coats, scarves, gloves, and boots! We finally managed the task, set our home security alarm from, and headed out to meet my brother's family downtown.

Our city puts on a big Christmas display each year where all of the shops put up lights and decorations. Each street has a different theme, which means that there is something for everyone to see as well as plenty of variety. My daughter was most excited to see the North Pole and Candy Cane street theme, while my son was looking forward to the Snowflake Street.

Walking around outside was incredibly cold as the temperatures had naturally dropped that evening, but it was more than worth it to see how excited the kids got. They hardly seemed to notice the cold and it was a good reminder for all of the adults to tap into those feelings of sheer joy. We spent almost two hours walking around before we decided it was finally time to warm up with some yummy hot chocolate.
