Giving Thanks

The Author of this post is Les Snow

Every Thanksgiving my family and I travel to South Carolina to visit my wife's family. We do it up right by packing our bags, turning off the lights to our house, setting our home security alarm from www.home-alarm-systems.com/ and pile into our conversion van to make the 300 mile drive to Fort Mill, South Carolina. Once there, the men in the family crowd around the television to watch the football games and wait for the turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, squash casserole, sweet potato pie, apple pie and the pumpkin pie to all be put out onto the table. Then it's just a free-for-all as we race to pile the food onto our plates and get back in front of the television before the next play happens. Then everyone takes a nap for an hour or so before heading outside to walk off the fifteen pounds we just gained from eating so much. Sometimes we play touch-football which all of the kids love to do. Some of the women participate, but most sit on the huge wrap-around porch and watch us play or catch up on every one's life events. It's a great time and we always look forward to spending Thanksgiving there and stuffing our faces full for a couple of days.

The daily break

This guest post from Efren Gill

I used to always just take my lunch break in the break room at work. I never bothered to even attempt to go home. As far as I could see, there was little point to attempting to make the trip back home. This all changed however when I realized that I could watch my satellite tv from www.tvbydirect.com when I was at home.

I had never really thought about spending my lunch break doing something like this, but it really does make a lot of sense. You don't just have to eat when you are on a break, the time is yours!

I noticed that I used to eat and then have a good chunk of idle time were I was doing nothing. I was not getting paid for this time, but I was still sitting there at work. Sometimes I would even go back to working on what I was doing. Why would I do this when I wasn't being paid? I wish I knew the answer to that question, but it is something that I no longer do.

My coworkers won't see me hanging around the break room anymore. Rather, they are going to see me exiting the door come break time. This way I will be enjoying my time off in the way that I actually want to spend it. I recommend that everyone do the same thing.

Boston Celtics

The Author of this post is Velma Baird

The NBA Basketball season is on the horizon, and the best way to gear up for it is with the preseason. Personally, I like to check out all the games on my cable tv, but in particular I like to catch up on my favorite team, The Boston Celtics. The Celtics are a team in transition, as it tries to accommodate three aging stars as it gives the reins to an exciting new point guard, Rajon Rondo. Rondo is a precocious fellow who at first had an icy relationship with the veterans, as they saw him as stepping on their toes, but now there seems to be mutual admiration and respect, culminating with a near championship last season.

The championship was deprived from them by a man named Ron Artest, who joined with Lakers as a mercenary last season. It is interesting to note that these two storied rivals are each going through similar transitions, as Artest gradually becomes the closer in place of an aging Kobe Bryant. While Bryant could not throw a rock in the ocean in the critical game 7, Artest was knocking down threes, posting up, rebounding, and putting back layups, all while covering the Celtics' premier scorer, Paul Pierce. While Bryant was given the series MVP out of sentimentality and laziness, Artest was the true catalyst, and the players the Celtics fear.

My Thanksgiving dinner

You Are Laid Back

You're low maintenance and find happiness in the simplest things. You prefer to do things the easy way.

As long as Thanksgiving dinner is edible, you're happy with it. It's more about the holiday than the food for you.

You try not to complain or criticize. Even when people do things wrong, you know that life is hard.

You believe that it's important to remain positive and optimistic. Everyone could use a little more encouragement in this world.

The perfect end for a great story

Breaking Dawn: The perfect end for a great story

Thanks for the guest post by Dave Myers

After many years away from literature, the Twilight Saga was a great jumpstart to begin reading again. These books were written in such a brilliant way. Plot tightens and suspense just keeps growing page after page. Once I started reading the first book, I was not happy until I read the very last page. I read the four books in four weeks.

From the entire Twilight collection, Breaking Dawn was my favorite. This book along with the entire Twilight saga was the best entertainment right next to satellite television from http://www.BestChoiceTV.com. In Breaking Dawn, Meyer brings the Twilight saga to an end in a very unusual way. The unexpected twists and suspense keeps the reader engaged throughout the story until the end.

It was really easy to fall in love with the characters, especially Renesmee. Meyer gives a sense of reality to the story that anyone could feel identified with it, even though we are talking about vampires and wolves.

Breaking Dawn gives all the answers from previous books and rounds up the story very well. Whatever seemed impossible to happen during the first books becomes real in this story. Stories that did not make sense before make complete sense in this book. Cant wait to see what Hollywood will make out of this book

My Lunch Hour

My Lunch Hour

Thanks to Austin Camacho

I look forward to my lunch hour every day. I work on my feet for eight hours as a CNA so rest times are important. I bring my lunch to work and eat in the designated breakroom. I love all of the banter and good humor floating around that room about the job and the residents we work with. It is the one place we can all sit and discuss what we really feel about certain issues or people. The medical field is full of things to talk about as well as be frustrated about so this time spent with fellow employees is important. There are days when we are all just too tired to do much talking and we sit and watch the news on DIRECTV just to unwind. I never fail to walk out of that room feeling closer to everyone then when I walked in. You get certain impressions of people while they work that are not necessarily accurate. During the lunch hour people are more likely to act like themselves and just be who they are. Some of them seem so serious at work while doing their jobs but just come undone during the lunch hour while laughing, joking and talking. It is the one time of day that I can truly relax and bring a small slice of joy into my day.

New Thanksgiving pumpkin dessert

New Thanksgiving pumpkin dessert

Guest post written by Caroline Spicer

I thought that this year for Thanksgiving, I wouldn't fix pumpkin pie. Quite frankly, I'm a little tired of the dessert even though I love pumpkin stuff. So I thought that I'd make some kind of other pumpkin dessert that my picky son will actually eat for once.

I think that people have come up with a recipe for pumpkin everything, so it really wasn't hard finding something, really just hard to figure out exactly what kind of new pumpkin dessert I was going to try and fix. When I was looking through all of that stuff I found some stuff about a wireless internet company and after reading some more info I changed over our internet service to the company.

I settled on some pumpkin spice cookies that I think are going to be really delicious. IÕve tried some before that are like them, but never tried to make any myself. I think that I can get my son to help me make them the night before for fun, which will help convince him to eat them the next day.

NHL Hockey in High Definition

NHL Hockey in High Definition

Guest post of the week by Val Flores

The popcorn is popped, the drinks are cold and everyone is ready for that puck to be dropped. If you can't be at the game, the next best thing is to watch hockey in high definition on satellite special deals. Being a Chicago Blackhawk fan, we hope with every game we can repeat last season. Head coach Joel Quenneville has done a great job leading the Hawks to the Stanley Cup Championship last season and now has a new assistant Mike Kitchen who spent three years with the Florida Panthers. Right now the Hawks sit atop the Western Conference Central Division and are second in most points scored in the NHL. Their injury list includes right-winger Marian Hossa and center Dave Bolland, but back in the line-up is Brian Campbell. Being a top-notch defense men, who can pass with accuracy, both Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews have expressed how great it will be to have Brian back to set up plays. Goalie Marty Turco bounced back in his last game after a disaster against the Edmonton Oilers. If they can get on a roll and stay healthy, this season should leave them in good standing to repeat last season.

Explore a world of water inhabits

Explore A World of Water Inhabitants

Thanks for the article from Quinton Wynn

A place animal lovers adore, a colorful display of an underwater world, and home to sea-creatures of all kinds, a visit to the Aquarium is surely a memorable one. I've been to several thus far in my lifetime and I will surely be back. The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park is my favorite, mostly because it's near my home so I have the luxury of visiting often. It's important to always set my home security alarm (CLICK HERE from more information) before I leave so we can visit the penguins in peace. I believe the Aquarium is a great place for all sorts of activities. It's a beautiful, romantic place to take someone you care for, providing a private setting and it will offer ways for the both of you to interact with animals. You also will win big with the kids by spending time with your family at this fun-filled vibrant place which is truly a bonding opportunity. There are live shows where the animals perform including otters, penguins, turtles, and dolphins. For a relatively low cost, this trip can be an all day affair! The ocean is a great mystery and we've only explored about seven percent of it but a tour guide explains all. You learn about the habitat, behavior, and survival of thousands of plants and animals. Every time go, you're bound to experience something new.

Learning about the woman behind the vampires

Guest post written by LeeAnn Marshall

No I haven't been trapped in a cave for the past couple of years. Instead I've been working on a dissertation on the other side of the world. So you'll have to forgive me for just now catching the Twilight vampire craze. When I came back a couple of months ago I had so much catching up to do with all my friends and family and then after i was doen with that I started catching up on all the great pop culture that I had missed. First off was catching up on teh Harry Potter movies. But then my best friend insisted that I read teh Twilight books and watch the movies.

I looked them up and bought them online and right after I did that I ran across this site clear 4g internet and switched over my internet service to it after I gave it a proper read through.

I'm not saying that Stephenie Myer is the next Ann Rice or even the next Stephen King because from what I've read King definitely doesn't think that. But I think that reading the books was a nice thing to do after feeling detached from civilization for so long.

The best announcers for a magical season

The best announcers for a magical season

Guest post written by my buddy Hans Hale

This baseball season has been the most memorable that I can remember in years. I haven't been able to catch a lot of ball games this season at the park, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the announcing team of Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper on the San Francisco Giants broadcasts.

So far I've caught almost every game because directv has fox and I have to say that Kuiper is an excellent play by play man and Krukow has to be the best color commentator in the country. He really teaches the game to the average fan and his knowledge is top rate. He picks up things that I'd never even thought about before I started listening to their broadcast.

This season the team actually hasn't stunk and has been in the pennant race throughout the entire year. They had some rough patches early on, but really came on during the summer to make it a race. I remember all the big close games they had this season. Every game seemed like it was a one run game and even the losses were memorable. I have to admit, they probably gave me a few gray hairs making the postseason on the final regular season game of the year. I can't wait to see how they do this year in the playoffs with their awesome shutdown pitching staff.

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, But Set Your Alarm

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, But Set Your Alarm

Guest post written by Darryl Hoover

Some years ago, "As Good As It Gets" launched in theaters nationwide. It was expected to do very well, with its stellar ensemble cast that included Jack Nicholson, as obsessive-compulsive curmudgeon Melvin Udall and Helen Hunt, aka Carol Connelly, his tireless and fearless waitress with a heart of gold for her asthmatic Spencer. Greg Kinnear, as Simon, was not as well known but still had his legions of fans. James L. Brooks, the screenwriter, also brought out droves of fans as well who are forever enamored with a solid, well-told storyline and full characters. The actor Cuba Gooding, Jr. was cast in an unusual role as an art dealer. Skeet Ulrich, famed actor Robert Ulrich's son, also had a pivotal role as well. Actor-screenwriter-director Harold Ramis, of "Analyze This" fame, is physician Dr. Martin Bettes. The actor-screenwriter-director Shane Black, of "Lethal Weapon" fame, also played a pivotal role as the diner manager, "Brian."

It was no surprise that Nicholson and Hunt swept up their Oscars, among the movies many Oscar nominations. Part of the allure with this movie is that you won't be hard pressed to find its fans who've seen it more than once or twice. Occasionally, it comes out in second-run theaters because while at home viewing is convenient, there's nothing like the big-screen to capture the essence of a wonderful film, larger than life such that it pulls viewers into another parallel universe of reality sprung true to life from imagination.

Life in the Big Apple, like other metro cities, is exciting, with visual artists such as painters and photographer hosting receptions where believers and buyers gather to pay tribute and purchase art. The glamor and high spirits in "As Good As It Gets" reflect one aspect of the artist's life. The other elements of life in the big city become flesh and blood when Greg Kinnear's character, "Simon" forgets where he lives and doesn't take the precautions required to live, work and play in a city where everyone is not as fortunate or as kind as you might expect. There are others who are less fortunate, and perfectly willing to exploit the kindness of others.

With all the amazing elements of "As Good As It Gets" that keeps its fans coming back for more full bodied plots of memorable characters that truly come to life, viewers feel like we know these people. All of them. The characters go through changes, and come out on "the bright side of life". You keep the faith, but you set your home security alarm from www.SecurityChoice.com/ prior to going to the theater, and when at home.

I like VIP Party

You Party Like a VIP

You enjoy a good time, but you're a bit picky about how you party. You like to party in style.

It bums you out to party among the masses. You like some privacy... and a dress code!

You have high class tastes, and no expense is spared when it comes to your nights out.

You like to treat yourself, even if that means paying a little extra to have an unforgettable time.

Feel lazy

Hubby asked if I want to go to the market. I don’t feel like going to the market coz the market area is far from our house. Unless if hubby want me to buy new loot. LOL! Actually I was thinking of buying house stuff. As I mentioned on my previous post hubby and I was renting. We’re staying at my in-laws house before but now we decided to detach with them. And I would like to thanks with them for helping us a couple of months to stay with their house.

Since I’m very lazy to go somewhere now I was reading trade show displays online. They offer one stop shopping. Then I surfed all types of exhibit booths furniture since I want to purchase house stuff. I also browse truss and logo floor mats on their site. They also offer all types of display lighting. I’m gonna tell to my SIL about the lighting I’ve read as far as I know she wants to buy that kind of display.

Oh my baby is woke up already need to ciao. Bye folks.

Reflection

There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health. —Proverbs 12:18

The writer of Proverbs describes an unwise person as “one who speaks like the piercings of a sword” (12:18). Our tongues can be like a multi-bladed Swiss Army knife when it comes to the variety of ways that we cut and destroy each other.

Unhealthy attitudes of anger, irritation, frustration, and impatience—even disappointment, stress, guilt, and insecurity—all contribute to our damaging speech. And as we cut with our words, we wound and divide friendships and relationships. It’s no wonder that the infamous list of seven things that are an abomination to the Lord includes anyone who “sows discord among brethren” (Prov. 6:16-19).

How do we stay off that list? For starters, we need to watch what we say. Gossip and slander are out, and words that hurt instead of heal are not welcome. Boasting, lying, and all the rest of the ways we use words to hurt and divide need to be gone as well. In their place, words that extend love and the healing power of forgiveness, mercy, and truth should rule our words and relationships. After all, where would we be if Jesus hadn’t spoken words of forgiving love and grace to us?

So, put the “knife” away and use your words to help and heal.

Lord, put a seal upon my lips,
Help me to guard with care
The things I say and swift repeat;
O tongue of mine, beware! —Bosch

Our words have the power to build up or tear down.
